1. Nigeria’s High Commissioner to India, Chris Ezeh, has insisted that the ongoing Operation Python Dance II in South-East was justified going by the volume of hate speech the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu was making to incite Igbos against the sovereignty of the country.
According to him, hate speeches like those attributed to Kanu sparked the Rwandan Genocide and the Adolf Hitler-inspired Second World War in which over six million Jews were killed.
2. Former President, Goodluck Jonathan, has vowed to open the cans of worms on what happened in the 2015 general elections that made the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lose the presidency.
Jonathan said no matter what anyone said, the PDP recorded several achievements through the number of reforms it introduced and implemented in the 16 years it ruled the country.
3. The Kaduna State Government has obtained a bench warrant from the court to arrest members of the Coalition of Northern Youths that gave Igbos October 1, 2017 to quit the region.
Despite the withdrawal of the quit notice by the group, the state government said they must be arrested.
4. Nigeria government on Thursday said the recent exit from recession does not mean that the country is totally immune to economic dip.
Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udo Udoma, warned that Nigeria’s economy was still vulnerable to shocks.
5. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed the dates for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, which will hold in 2019.
INEC chairman, Professor Yakubu Mahmood, who made this announcement in Abuja on Thursday, said, the Presidential and National Assembly elections have been fixed for Saturday, 16 February, 2019.
6. Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode on Thursday endorsed the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose for President.
Fani-Kayode, a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, declared that no “force could stop Fayose from becoming the next president of Nigeria.”
7. Unknown gunmen on Wednesday abducted another priest of the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, Edo State.
The priest, identified as Rev. Fr. Lawrence Adorolo, was reportedly whisked away by the gunmen along Auchi-Okpella highway.
8. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has withdrawn its motion seeking an order of the Federal High Court in Abuja to allow it serve the recall petition on the Senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye through substituted means.
Justice Nnamdi Dimgba struck out the motion after INEC’s lawyer, Yunus Ustaz (SAN), announced its withdrawal in court on Thursday and directed that all issues pertaining to the case should thereafter be taken to the Court of Appeal.
9. Zamfara State assistant commissioner of police Mr Emmanuel Adeniyi, attached to the state police command in charge of Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has been abducted.
He was captured by a group of gunmen suspected to be notorious kidnappers.
