An Indian medical student, Manuchi Chhillar, has been crowned Miss World 2017 at a glitzy event in a Chinese resort on Saturday, November 18, 2017 – thus becoming the 67th person to be crowned in the history of the pageant.
The win comes 17 years after Priyanka Chopra brought to India the coveted title in the year 2000.
Chhillar was handed the crown by last year’s winner, Stephanie del Valle of Puerto Rico, at the ceremony in the Chinese coastal city of Sanya on Saturday night while Stephanie Hill of England and Andrea Meza of Mexico finished as runners-up.
“Thank you, everyone, for your constant love, support, and prayers”, she wrote on Twitter.
“This one’s for India”, the new queen added.
Chhillar is the sixth Indian woman to win Miss World, and the first since Priyanka Chopra won Miss World 2000.Manushi Chhillar is an Indian model and beauty pageant title holder who was crowned Miss World 2017 on 18th November 2017.
Her win brings India level with Venezuela as the countries with most victories in the history of the pageant, now in its 67th edition.
Ms Chhillar, a 20-year-old from Haryana, studied in St. Thomas School in New Delhi and Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonepat.
According to Ms Chhillar’s profile on the Miss World website, Ms Chhillar aims to be a cardiac surgeon and has plans of opening non-profit hospitals in rural areas.
Ms Chhillar’s profile also says she is a trained classical dancer and has a passion for outdoor sports like scuba diving, snorkelling and bungee jumping.
