Look, I’m one of those smug people who take a little too much pride in the fact they have never seen a single episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
I roll my eyes whenever I see someone with a name beginning with K proclaiming to have broken the internet, and I make a conscious effort to get the gaggle of raven haired sisters mixed up.
However, I fully admit to having watched Kylie Jenner’s viral tribute to her newborn daughter and having got a bit of something in my eye… #IgnoreTheHaters #SundayNightMushBrain #BiologicalClockTicking as Kylie and friends might say.

After a unusually prolonged period of (relative) social media silence from the 20-year-old reality TV star, we are suddenly gifted with over ten minutes of footage showing Kylie’s nine month journey to motherhood.
We caught glimpses of Kylie’s ultrasound, her pyjama clad baby shower and even heard the first cries of the tiniest (human) YouTube sensation of 2018.
The birth announcement/pregnancy montage has had the sort of reaction you would usually expect from a surprise album release or the latest film in the Star Wars franchise.
You can check out the weirdly poignant video below. Trust me, this is a no judgement zone:
Writing on her formidably followed Instagram page, Kylie wrote:
I’m sorry for keeping you in the dark through all the assumptions. I understand you’re used to me bringing you along on all my journeys. my pregnancy was one I chose not to do in front of the world.
I knew for myself i needed to prepare for this role of a lifetime in the most positive, stress free, and healthy way i knew how. there was no gotcha moment, no big paid reveal i had planned.
I knew my baby would feel every stress and every emotion so I chose to do it this way for my little life and our happiness.
She continued:
pregnancy has been the most beautiful, empowering, and life changing experience I’ve had in my entire life and I’m actually going to miss it.
I appreciate my friends and especially my family for helping me make this special moment as private as we could. my beautiful and healthy baby girl arrived February 1st and i just couldn’t wait to share this blessing.
I’ve never felt love and happiness like this i could burst! Thank you for understanding.
However, some people have taken serious issue with one particular aspect of the seemingly-heartwarming vid. The baby girl’s new wardrobe.
Now, as a descendent of the Kardashian/Jenner dynasty, this little lady is destined to become a future fashionista; carrying her mother’s lip legacy right through this brave new-ish century. But right now, this is a baby.
According to VT, various reports suggest Kylie has spent $70,000 on clothes for her daughter.
Remember, this is a newborn who will undoubtedly vomit some decidedly non-designer substances all over her new one-of-a-kind clobber…

Perhaps understandably, many fans are slightly peeved about such a life-changing sum of money being spent on making a screaming, pooping infant look #Adorable.
One person glumly noted:
kylie jenner’s baby is only 3 days old and has a wardrobe that can pay my whole tuition
Another sighed, ‘Kylie Jenner’s baby only 4 days old but already have more clothes and shoes than i ever had sigh.’
Sigh.
Not to put too much weight on those tiny shoulders or anything, but there are other kids being born today whose birth announcements will not be shared millions of times.
Many of these kids will be entering a world where their access to food, water and healthcare is life-threateningly scarce.
They will never have the financial means or opportunities to compete against the Kardashian-Jenners of the planet.
I completely get how if you have the money to spoil your kid, then you absolutely would be tempted to.
However, let’s just hope this brand new human grows up with an understanding of just how privileged she is in the grand scheme of things.
Furthermore, lets hope she one day has the inclination to use her already powerful platform for the greater good.
