7 Years old girl, killed when car smashed into house in treacherous weather

A girl of seven who was killed when a car ploughed into her home as she played in the snow has been named.

The youngster, identified only as Maisie, died on Thursday when the vehicle careered off the road, through a fence and into the side of a bungalow.

It is thought the driver lost control in the thick snow and ice.

The tragedy happened at around 2.30pm, when police were called to reports of a Nissan car "colliding" with a property in the small coastal town of Looe.

The schoolgirl sadly died at the scene.

The mayor of Looe, Armand Toms, said the family were well-known in the area and the community had come together to offer support, Cornwall Live reported.

He said everyone was devastated at what had happened.

A crowd funding page as now been set up by friends of the family to remember the little girl.

The introduction on the page reads: “Weʼre raising £5,000 to help our friends who lost their beloved 7yr old daughter Maisie in a tragic accident in our town of Looe. We have set up this page to help the young family relieve financial pressures in their hard time.”

By Friday evening, the fund had already raised more than £3,750. You can find details of the page here.
