The Enugu State Command has commenced investigation into the alleged sale of a baby boy at Akama Oghe in Ezeagu LGA, Enugu State.
It was gathered that the mother of the said baby boy identified as Nwanneka Ezechi, from Akama Oghe, got pregnant and later disappeared from home to an unknown destination.
According to Independent sources, in November 2017, she gave birth to a baby boy but this was not disclosed to her family.
Her parents, however, became suspicious on getting the information. They subsequently reported the matter to the police.
Based on information from her parents, the police immediately arrested Nwanneka and later arrested one Okechukwu Nyia who claimed to be residing at Akpasha village of Akegbeugwu Nkanu West LGA to whom she allegedly sold the baby boy.
Okechukwu was said to have bought the baby at the cost of N300,000.
Ebere Amaraizu, the Spokesman of Enugu State Police Command, who confirmed this report in a statement on Saturday, said the two suspects were helping the police operatives in their full-scale investigation into the matter.
