Future NBA Hall-of-Famer, Dirk Nowitzki has signed a one-year deal to return to the Dallas Mavericks for the upcoming 2018/2019 season.
The team announced on Monday that the 40-year-old German was returning for a record breaking 21st year with the same franchise. The 13-time All Star will now hold the record for the longest time a player has played in the NBA with a single franchise, eclipsing Kobe Bryant and his 20 years with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Specifics of the contract were not released but it’s reportedly around the $5m mark and even though Dirk isn’t the player he once was, he’s still a valuable member of a locker room in the middle of a rebuild.
The one time NBA champion and MVP was drafted with the 9th overall pick in the 1998 NBA draft and is just 233 points away from passing Wilt Chamberlain as the league’s fifth all-time leading scorer,
