Barely less than two weeks after Disc Jockey, Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, revealed why she stopped being a feminist, ace Nigerian actress, Genevieve Nnaji, who recently attended the premiere of her movie ‘Lionheart’ in Toronto, has declared that she is proud to be one.
Relishing in the euphoria of the acquisition of worldwide rights to her movie by Neflix, the actress, who spoke with Women and Hollywood, an online platform, said she embraces her femininity.
Her words: “I’m a proud feminist who embraces her femininity. I feel sometimes women are made to feel self-conscious and ashamed of their womanhood. Perhaps like ‘Wonder Woman’, we may wake up one day to discover that it is our superpower, and then we would be unstoppable.”Her view on feminism is in contrast to that of billionaire heiress, DJ Cuppy, who had said that she’s not a feminist because she doesn’t understand it.
“I used to consider myself a feminist, until I realised that I did not really understand it. I don’t like people who are hypocrites. People are out there speaking about women rights, but behind closed doors are doing crazy things.Meanwhile, the actress further spoke about the movie which she reveals is a “drama about family values, succession, and most importantly, female empowerment.”
“I will never come out as a feminist because I am in a male-dominated industry, so I have a certain scenario. I deal with men on a daily basis and I realise that they will always think that they are better than women. I don’t think it is going to solve it,” she said in an interview published online on August 30.
Asked if she had any advice for other female directors, her response was: “I don’t consider myself qualified enough yet to give advice, to be honest, and so I say this to my peers as I say to myself daily: eliminate fear and self-doubt”.
