Following the attack on Jussie Smollett by two masked white men in New York, details surrounding what is being described as a “homophobic attack” has emerged.
Recall that the gay “Empire” star was attacked while on a food trip to the subway at about 2 am Tuesday Morning, January 29, 2019.
According to TMZ, Smollett was attacked by two men wearing ski masks who confronted him on his way out of the subway, saying, “Aren’t you that f***ot Empire n****?”
Shortly afterwards, the actor was viciously attacked, causing him to suffer a fractured rib as he fought back. His attackers are said to have put a rope around his neck and poured bleach on him while screaming, “This is MAGA country.”
Smollett is reportedly undergoing treatment at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was hospitalised following the attack.
His attack has since caused an outcry from fans and celebrities alike all over the world.
Further news reports have also revealed that Smollett had earlier turned down security details prior to the attack.
According to TMZ, FOX had despatched security details to Smollett but he had turned the offer down, not wanting to be burdened with so much security.
The reports also revealed that Smollett’s security details had been increased after Fox Studios in Chicago, reportedly received a homophobic threatening letter addressed to the “Empire” cast.
