Goldalyn Tanga Kakuya was among the only two girls who won First Lady Margaret Kenyatta‘s scholarship.

The two, Kakuya and Olive Wachira, are set to join Brookhouse School in Nairobi known for its high-end status in the education sector.

Kakuya will be joining Form Two at her new school from Kenya High School where she joined in 2018.

Speaking at the event where she also opened a library, the First Lady revealed that she was honoured to present the award to the two bright girls.First Lady Margaret Kenyatta presents the Award to Goldalyn Kakuya in the presence of Education CS Amina Mohamed

Kakuya, who is living with albinism, topped the 2017 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations with 455 marks while Wachira emerged the best in the 2018 exams scoring 453 marks.

“Today I had the honour of awarding secondary school scholarships at Brookhouse School to Goldalyn Tanga and Olive Wachira who achieved first place in the 2017 and 2018 KCPE respectively,” stated Kenyatta.

The scholarship was launched in 2013 by the first lady in association with Malaysia and was aimed at empowering the youth by equipping them with skills in line with the country’s current development needs.

During the launch, Kenyatta directed the Ministry of Education to award the deserving students in a ceremony also attended by Education CS Amina Mohamed, .

Kakuya rose to fame shortly after the 2017 KCPE exams were released where she scored A’s in all subjects and even got invited to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Statehouse.

The Golden girl had, in the past, been presented with various opportunities including a check from Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura who presented her with a Kshs 100,000 cheque for making the albino community proud.

Additionally, the pupil and her family were also offered a five-day holiday package by Bonfire Adventures Company to celebrate the success.
