Will Smith has taken on the role of the blue-colored genie in Walt Disney’s upcoming movie, ‘Aladdin.’
Will’s role was revealed in a new teaser released by Disney on February 10, 2019.
The thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic will also feature Mena Massoud as Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar; Navid Negahban as the Sultan; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia; Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders; and Numan Acar as Hakim.
The role of Genie in 'Aladdin' was originally performed by the late Robin Williams in the animated classic.
The first teaser for the film, which debuted in October 2018, left the Genie out. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly on his role, Smith said, ‘There’s a little bit less mimicking — there’s a James Brown piece that we do but a little bit less mimicking. The thing that will be the major addition from me playing the Genie is the hip-hop base. I think that’ll be fun for people. I think it’ll stand out as unique even in the Disney world. There hasn’t been a lot of that hip-hop flavor in Disney history!’
Directed by Guy Ritchie, ‘Aladdin’ will be released on May 24, 2019.
