Diego Costa Banned For Eight Matches After Insulting Referee’s Mother

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa has been handed an eight-match ban for clashing with referee Gil Manzano during the club’s La Liga defeat at the hands of Barcelona.
Diego Costa was shown a straight red card in the 28th minute of last Saturday’s match having verbally assault Manzano on two occasions.
An audio recording appears to confirm Costa said ‘me cago en tu puta madre’, which translates as ‘I s*** on your whore mother’.
Costa denied insulting Manzano’s mother.
It has been confirmed the 30-year-old’s ban is for two separate infractions, with four matches for his verbal assault and the other four due to physical clashes with Manzano.
The 30-year-old has also been fined over his actions in his most recent outing.
He has been ordered to pay €6,010 to the relevant authorities and Atletico €2,800.
Costa’s suspension means he will miss the rest of the season and he may have played his last game for Atlético after struggling since his return to the club in January 2018. He has scored only 12 goals in 44 appearances.
