Nigerian workers beg Buhari to sign N30k minimum wage bill

Workers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have pleaded to President Muhammadu Buhari to bless the 30,000 Naira minimum wage bill with his signature.


The minimum wage bill has been submitted to President Buhari by the National Assembly on March 27, into law but he has not made any attempt in signing it till date.

Speaking to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja, some workers expressed concern on why signing the bill into law is taking time, adding that it was causing unnecessary anxiety.

An Abuja based civil servant, Mrs Kema Nwokedi said the work of the tripartite committee should be completed by the president.


Mrs Nwokedi asks Buhari to sign the bill which was passed expeditiously by the two chambers of the national assembly to cushion the effect of the economic hardship on workers.


She further called on the president to make Nigerian workers happy by signing the bill as an Easter gift.


Mr Abdullahi Sani, another civil servant, urged the President to assuage the feelings of Nigerian workers by signing the bill into law before May 1.

Also, Mrs Dayo Adedayo of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, said that signing the bill immediately would go a long way to help the workers. Adedayo said that the delay was causing untold hardship as the current salaries received by workers could no longer take care of their daily needs
