This year’s theme, ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’ which was inspired by photographer Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay, Notes on Camp, is a nod to the theatricality, extravaganza, irony, humor and parody in the fashion word.
In no particular order, we present our best dressed ladies at this year’s #MetGala.
Lady Gaga
Met Gala host, Lady Gaga went big in not one but four Brandon Maxwell outfits.
Lady Gaga arrived the scene in billowing pink outfit before switching to a black strapless gown, a pink slip dress with giant cell phone, and finally, some very chic lingerie with sparkly tights.
Cardi B
The Grammy winner stopped traffic in a perfectly on-theme, popping red Thom Browne gown with a matching headpiece.
The rapper glammed up in a ten feet of tulle and silk organza of Thom Browne, topped with 30,000 burned, dyed coque feathers, a 250k rubies from Stefere jewelry for nipple covers.
She rounded of the look with a head-moulding Stephen Jones x Thom Browne hat.
Cardi’s husband, Offset, was no wear in sight but the couple recently hit the red carpet at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, engaging in some steamy PDA. Cardi led the pack at the BBMAs with a whopping 21 nominations in 18 categories and walked away with six awards for rap female artist, rap song, Hot 100 song, collaboration, radio song and top selling song.
Celine Dion
The singing legend dazzled in a metallic fringed gown inspired by the glitzy costumes of the Ziegfeld, sparkling it up in a towering, spiky headpiece which stole the show.
The entire Oscar de la Renta ensemble was constructed from 18 panels, hand-beaded by 52 master embroiderers over a total of 3,000 hours and weighs over 22 pounds.
Janelle Monae
Queen of hats, Janelle made a stylistic appearance balancing a Mad Hatter’s four-hat creation and a Christian Siriano’s Picasso-esque skirt and bust—which actually blinked its feathered lashes complete with a winking eye.
Janelle Monae wears multiple hats as a singer, songwriter, actress, and producer, so perhaps it should come as no surprise that this was how she rolled up to the 2019 Met Gala.
Kim Kardashian
Kardashian West, 38, wore a beaded latex Thierry Mugler dress to celebrate the opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s new theatrical exhibition, “Camp: Notes on Fashion.”
Manfred Thierry Mugler came out of retirement to design this ‘Straight from the Ocean’ look for Kim. The reality star spotted a soaking wet look just as she is on the current cover of Vogue.
Ciara
The ‘Level Up’ singer looked like she was straight from the Diana Ross disco-era.
She donned a green embellished gown with ostrich feathers paired with matching embellished gloves, belt and choker, neatly rounding off the look with a big lush hair.
Kacey Musgraves
She pulled up in a Barbie car in a pink leather motorcycle gown and pink cat eye sunnies. This is what you call a moment.
Lupita Nyong’o
From her neon rainbow top, to her matching fan bag, the gilded picks in her hair, and pink star maxi skirt—no one can take their eyes off of this vision decked in Versace.
I don't think that I like their dresses. The only thing I can say that they look very extraordinary. As for me, I prefer when people wear simple clothes.
