Concerned youths in the Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Wednesday, called for the dissolution of the present leadership of the party in the state and a fresh election of leaders.
The youths, under the aegis of Concerned Youths Forum of the APC in Bauchi State, stated this in a statement signed by their chairman, Abubakar Umar Turaki and made available to journalists in Bauchi on Wednesday.
The group alleged that the consensus arrangement through which the new leaders emerged was simply an imposition of leaders on the party, saying that this is contrary to the guidelines for APC congress.
It, therefore, gave the national leadership of the ruling party a 14-day ultimatum with which the new leadership should be dissolved and a fresh congress is conducted for peace and unity to reign in the state chapter of the party.
“We, the Bauchi State Youths Concern Forum are appealing to the APC national leadership to dissolve the imposed leadership of the party and conduct a fresh congress in line with the provision of the constitution of our party within 14 days for peace and unity to reign.
“The Minister of Education as party leader in the state in collaboration with erstwhile Speaker House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, constituted and imposed state executives without consulting our party delegates and stakeholders which contradicted the provision of our party constitution and that of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the group alleged.
The statement expressed regret that the congress took place contrary to the expectations of all the delegates and stakeholders as a new party executive purportedly emerged from Abuja.
The group noted that the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, is not a grassroots politician who can work for APC’s success at any level.
It further alleged that during the previous election, the minister did not only fight the party but also supported candidates of other opposition parties.
While expressing lack of confidence in Adamu leading APC in the state, the group advised that the minister should not be entrusted with such a sensitive position as leader of the party at a time it is warming up for 2023 political activities.
