Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, on Friday, declared that the relative peace at Tafawa Balewa in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of the state should not be taken for granted, hence everything possible had to be done to maintain the peace there.
Governor Mohammed made the declaration shortly before inaugurating a 30-man committee constituted by the state government to review the implementation of the reports of Justice Babalakin, Shehu Awak and Justice Bala Umar Commissions of Inquiry on the creation of Sayawa Chiefdom.
Reviewing the various commissions of inquiry set up after each episode of ethnoreligious crises in the area, the governor charged members of the committee to be meticulous in the discharge of the assignment given to them.
While saying that previous crises in the area led to loss of lives and properties and emphasising that such must stop, Mohammed asserted that the task given to the committee is onerous.
He declared that his administration, being a responsive one, was determined to put the issue of Sayawa chiefdom to rest once and for allResponding on behalf of members of the committee, the chairman, Ambassador Jibrin Dada Chinade, expressed appreciation to the governor for finding them among many equally qualified people in the state to carry out the assignment.
While assuring that the committee will do its best, Chinade said, “the task ahead of us an onerous one but by the grace of God, we will do our best to deliver as expected so that all people of the state will be proud of the outcome”.
