There are health conditions that require the use of diagnostic equipment before doctors are able to identify them but some can simply be determined just by a simple glance at the hands. Here are five of such health conditions that doctors can obtain preliminary diagnostic information by looking at your hands. Pale hands reveal: Anaemia
There are many different forms of anaemia including acute and chronic anaemia which are linked to other health issues such as sickle cell disease and hypothyroidism.
However, all forms occur when a person doesn’t have enough healthy blood cells to carry oxygen throughout the body. As such, the common symptoms are pale skin, especially hand skin, and pale nail beds.
Clubbed nails reveal: Lung disease
Clubbed nails, that curve down and have a large or bulging end of the finger, are conditions that are usually associated with a number of different diseases. One of those conditions is lung disease since clubbed fingers or nails could be caused by low oxygen in the blood.
Doctors also say Nail clubbing has also being linked to inflammatory bowel disease, cardiovascular disease, liver disease, and AIDS.
Blotchy, red palms reveal: Liver disease
Palmar erythema causes blotchy, red hands which are a secondary symptom that could point to various diseases. According to Medical News Today, one health issue this symptom is linked to is liver diseases.
Some people might also experience slightly warmer hands from this condition as well other symptoms. However, further tests need to be carried out to ascertain the cause.
Swollen knuckles reveal: High cholesterol
Hard, yellow bumps that suddenly appear over the knuckles could be a sign of a fatal, genetic high cholesterol condition called Familial hypercholesterolaemia.
In this condition, Xanthomas, or fat deposits found in the tendons, lump together in the hands, elbows, or knees, and a fast and noticeable way for doctors to diagnose this condition is by looking at your hands.
